The IEEE Reliability Society Standards Committee Working Group completed work on the IEEE Std 1332-2012 standard modification in November 2012. The IEEE Std 1332-2012 standard working group developed the standard under the leadership of Dr Michael Pecht, Dr Michael Azarian and Mr Louis Gullo. This effort was the first update of the IEEE Std 1332 standard since it was initially published in 1998.

The IEEE Std 1332-2012 standard provides a means to develop a comprehensive reliability program that provides value to the electronics industry. The IEEE Std 1332-2012 standard revision connects reliability program requirements and 3 program objectives to another standard, IEEE Std 1624, which includes 8 practices tied to the 3 objectives. IEEE Std 1624 is the standard document for organizational reliability capability and the assessments thereof. The 2 standard documents were developed to work together to achieve the goals for development of reliability programs and the organizational capabilities to perform tasks within a program.
